چکیده

In this paper we propose a coupled-map lattice for modelling epidemic spread in a fuzzy setting. The presented model complies with the need for adequate modelling tools to describe and/or predict spatio-temporal phenomena, following the growing availability of spatio-temporal data. Furthermore, our approach does not rely on partial differential equations making it particularly suited to model epidemics in a fuzzy setting. It will be shown that the presented model allows to describe epidemic spread when the magnitude of the initial outbreak and/or the epidemic properties are only imprecisely known. Keywords— epidemic, discrete model, fuzzy initial condition, spatio-temporal dynamics

Critical scaling of stochastic epidemic models

In the simple mean-field SIS and SIR epidemic models, infection is transmitted from infectious to susceptible members of a finite population by independent p−coin tosses. Spatial variants of these models are proposed, in which finite populations of size N are situated at the sites of a lattice and infectious contacts are limited to individuals at neighboring sites. Scaling laws for both the mea...

Spatial Spread of Epidemic Diseases in Geographical Settings: Seasonal Influenza Epidemics in Puerto Rico

Deterministic models are developed for the spatial spread of epidemic diseases in geographical settings. The models are focused on outbreaks that arise from a small number of infected hosts imported into subregions of the geographical settings. The goal is to understand how spatial heterogeneity influences the transmission dynamics of the susceptible and infected populations. The models consist...

The impact of spatial arrangements on epidemic disease dynamics and intervention strategies

The role of spatial arrangements on the spread and management strategies of a cholera epidemic is investigated. We consider the effect of human and pathogen movement on optimal vaccination strategies. A metapopulation model is used, incorporating a susceptible-infected-recovered system of differential equations coupled with an equation modelling the concentration of Vibrio cholerae in an aquati...

Rich Bifurcation Structure in a Two-Patch Vaccination Model

We show that incorporating spatial dispersal of individuals into a simple vaccination epidemic model may give rise to a model that exhibits rich dynamical behavior. Using an SIVS (susceptible – infected – vaccinated – susceptible) model as a basis, we describe the spread of an infectious disease in a population split into two regions. In each sub-population, both forward and backward bifurcatio...

Coupled effects of local movement and global interaction on contagion

By incorporating segregated spatial domain and individual-based linkage into the SIS (susceptible-infected-susceptible) model, we investigate the coupled effects of random walk and intragroup interaction on contagion. Compared with the situation where only local movement or individual-based linkage exists, the coexistence of them leads to a wider spread of infectious disease. The roles of narro...
